Specialty crop producer and author of " Lucy Cantaloupe", "Puffy the Watermelon", and "Hard Heads Make Soft Bottoms". Farmed 30 years on same family farm. The love for children inspired Vern Switzer in the continuation of writing children's books based on his experiences of being a farmer of today, and sharing the knowledge of their food source. Vern's goal is to publish a series of books to inspire children to reunite with farming as a means of living, and to use the greatest portion of his profits to open summer camps for all children--of all races, creeds, and colors. Vern says, "Teach children how to farm, and they will forever know how to feed themselves in spite of the elements." Vern lives in Rural Hall, NC with his wife Annie.
